I have been strongly interested in improving health and wellbeing for quite a number of years, such that decided to dedicate my life to achieving that goal.
I became very interested in food and diet regulations, and how to manage a balanced and healthy lifestyle in a fast-paced environment, where making wise decisions is sometimes difficult because of the wide spectrum of available choices.
With the advancement of technology and the food industry, we must be more conscious of our everyday choices in order to maintain optimal health.I believe with the increase of diet-induced chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer, a proactive approach would be necessary to preventsuch illness from developing. In addition, bad nutrition is the greatest contributor to the majority of illnesses in the country, and that it is possible to leverage dietetics in order to prevent people from becoming patients in the first place. The lack of research and gaps in the literature were also one of my motivating aspects.
My Philosophy
Research has shown that healthy metabolic parameters are more important than your weight or BMI. We have known for a while now that “yo-yo” dieting or fads contribute to long term health problems and induce further instability in the body. Additionally, fad diets feed into toxic concepts of self by making you feel like you are never good enough; acceptance of body image becomes that much harder. Unfortunately, weight loss products and ads are ubiquitous. Finding the right diet while practicing intuitive, mindful eating are crucial to a more healthy psychology.
I believe in encouraging an awareness around eating that contributes to a long-term, healthy relationship with food. I am also a realist who believes in advice based on science to get past all the money-grabbing food trends out there. For my work, I adopt an honest, holistic approach that honours the individual by being sensitive to what are often complex issues in our relationship to food. I am open-minded, positive, and believe in giving hope to those I help as when someone is motivated, results are much better. My strategy is simple: I listen.
